Room 247, Best Western Sunset Motor Inn, Cody, Wyoming: 5.11pm, Sunday 30/5/10

Of course I forgot to mention: no phones, no TV, no mobiles, no Internet in Yellowstone. So, no Blogs.

Now back in the "real world" 60 miles to the East of Yellowstone in Wyoming farming and range country. Nicely settled into a traditional motel room. A good old Best Western with bags of room and the car right outside so no lugging bags up steps and stairs for poor old Bob.

John typed up Blog stuff while enjoying the wonderful lounge for two blissfully long evenings in the lodge at Lake Yellowstone (Lake Yellowstone Hotel) watching, (through big picture windows in comfortable lounge chairs), the snow turn the world into a Winter Wonderland. I am not going to upload this stuff tonight. But have a few pictures left over from the trip Las Vegas to Jackson Hole.

I was waxing lyrical about American airports. Well, here is how it can be sometimes. We drove through quiet streets to the almost empty car hire rental building. Returned the car. Got straight on a shuttle bus with two or three other people, wandered into the Delta check-in hall at about 6am thinking it would be all-but empty to find the above total chaos. And this was on a Thursday which should be one of the quieter days. After 5 or so minutes of total chaos, it began to sort itself out and, with a bit of cunning queue (sorry, line) swapping, we got our bags checked in within about 20 minutes of arriving. So not too bad in the end.

There used to be a giant lizard and a giant scorpion in the terminal buildings at LAS. The scorpion has disappeared and replaced by a giant rabbit. How did that happen? (No elephants still. Sorry!).

On a Delta regional (Canadair) jet. Lots of room and nice leather seats. We like these too, but not as much as the little American Eagle (AA) Embraers.

large_IMG_7131_800x600.jpgWe just love looking out of the windows as we cross the great empty American interior. Geology all but untouched by much weather and, of course, man. It often looks as if a great dustpan has been emptied across the landscape and needs hoovering up. The formations of canyons and ridges along with great plop-holes left by meteors is of great wonderment.

Whoops, spoke too soon.

Arriving at Jackson Hole. Delta regional flights are operated by Skywest

The previous occupants of our room at the "Trapper Inn" were only just leaving.

Tonight sleeping in the town founded by Buffalo "Bill", William Cody. Yeehaw.
